Events and such
This looks quite interesting: Trinity ICT Open Demonstrations 2008.
It was pointed out to me by Fergal Breen and it’s on in the Science Gallery on Pearse Street. Basically this seems to be a showcase of the cool research and technologies coming out of Trinners IT Dept right now including p2p video streaming and something called ‘microcharging’ to help tackle spam. Clearly I need to attend to find out what all these new research streams are producing!

Also in the Science Gallery recently: robot-y goodness in the form of ArtBots which ended yesterday. I didn’t realise that it was a three day event so I completely missed it. Anyone go along? The above spider-like robot was the winner of the Audience Choice Award – the iC Hexapod by Matt Denton. It’s sorta cute but more importantly is a face-tracking robot and took pictures of all the faces it encountered at the exhibition on Saturday. Is your face here? There are no nose-picking shots here but wouldn’t it be cool if it captured a pic of a ghostie phatome person (yes, I’m being whimsical now)?
Yes, I went! It was fantastic — lots of really great works, in particular the chance to see “Two-stage Transfer Drawing (Cyberskin)” in the flesh (so to speak), which I wasn’t expecting but was welcome.
Some of the exhibits weren’t particularly “art”, but it was still great fun… pity it wasn’t running for longer.
